Child/Youth Counselling

Counselling can be beneficial for children when they are worried about something at home or at school, or they are experiencing challenges with a relationship.

There are a variety of reasons why a child or adolescent may engage counselling. Counselling provides a place where a child and adolescent can talk about challenges they are experiencing, their thoughts or feelings, and/or identifying next steps, how they feel, separate from school and home life and can help them get back to enjoying life.

Here are some of the issues and concerns young people may bring to therapy:

  • Communication difficulties with friends or family
  • Coping with parents’ separation or divorce
  • Body image
  • Low self-esteem
  • Eating disorders
  • Peer pressure
  • Drug and alcohol use
  • Sexual expectations
  • Sexual identity
  • Developing social skills
  • School concerns
  • Bullying or being bullied
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Family expectations (chores, household rules, extracurricular, etc.)
